“ULTHERA” Ultherapy Skin Tightening and Lifting Treatments

What is “ULTHERA” Ultherapy Skin Tightening and Lifting Treatments?

Ultherapy is the ONLY FDA-approved, non-surgical way to lift, tighten and tone the skin .

Ultherapy uses the power of Ultrasound to safely lift and tighten skin. Ultrasound is a form of energy that is significantly different than light such as IPL and Lasers or Electrical (Radio-Frequency) energy. Ultherapy treatment protects the skin surface, whilst precisely penetrating at deeper depths and higher temperatures than Radio Frequency for example, treating beyond the Dermis and Foundation layers, where structural weakening starts.

Tissue at the target point is heated to 149F. Thermal Heat is created with the skin tissue creating both spaced ‘wounds’ and cellular friction – which in turn promotes healing, immediately contracts collagen and stimulates a rapid production. Over the next 90-180 days, the wound-healing response stimulates long-term tissue and leads to further lifting and tightening, with results that can last years.

It also helps to improve the tone and all the features of your face such as your eyes, cheeks, mouth, chin and skin also making it a viable alternative to Botox, with the benefit of being able to maintain facial expression. Excellent for post-surgical face lift to maintain the lift and treat blood stasis, scarring, and numbness.

What are the benefits of Ultherapy treatment?

As a completely non-surgical, non-invasive procedure, Ultherapy treatment offers patients many benefits over other procedures:

• How does an RF Facial work?

RF works through radio wave currents that penetrate deep into the dermis (deepest layer of the skin) and subcutaneous layers of the skin causing tightening of the underlying tissues showing a difference with fine lines, wrinkles, and skin texture.

• Do RF Facials hurt?

No. Every patient’s experience may vary due to individual pain tolerance. The radio currents provide heat on the skin causing minimal discomfort.

• What types of aesthetics concerns are corrected with RF Facials?

RF facials are an alternative for patients who are not ready for more invasive treatments such as Botox® and surgery creating the look of a brow lift, modest tightening of the forehead, tightening and thickening of the under eye skin, slightly lifting cheeks and diminishing large pores, jowling and sagging around the jaw line, as well as wrinkling along the neck and décolleté. A RF facial improves skin laxity and renewing facial contours by accelerating collagen and elastin renewal.

• How long is the down-time?

Minimal to no downtime is needed. It is a non-invasive procedure; no surgery, no injections, no recovery time. You may experience some redness or swelling up to 24 hours.

• How soon do you start seeing results?

Immediately you can see results with the RF facial. Photos are taken before and after to see the variation.

• How long do results last?

Results vary from patient to patient. They can last up 24 months or more based on the patient’s natural aging process.

• How many treatments are necessary?

For best results, 6-10 treatments within 6-8 weeks of each other are recommended. Your practitioner will advise you of how many treatments would be best for the results you are looking for and your skin condition.

• How long is each treatment?

Each treatment is about 30 minutes to an hour.

• Pre and Post-treatment recommendation?

Before you have an RF facial done you should avoid any type of sun exposure either by lying out in the sun, using artificial tanning with tanning beds or self-tanners, etc. This should be avoided approximately two weeks before and after RF treatments. After RF treatments, you should follow practitioner recommendations for an at home skin care recommendations to maintain between treatments and have longer lasting results when you are done with your series of treatments.

• Can anyone have this procedure done?

This procedure is usually performed on patients in their 30s-50s, patients in their 60s and above may need more invasive procedures (seek consultation before proceeding with any procedures) for similar results. It is safe for all skin types.

• Patients who should not have this procedure?

Patients with electrical devices such as: pacers, heart valves, metal implants or artificial metal joints. The RF currents may interfere with some of these devices and/or heat up the metal implants.

• RF vs. Galvanic Facial treatments?

Both RF and Galvanic facials work with electrical-magnetic currents. RF facials go deep into the dermis providing immediate, longer lasting results and accelerating cell renewal in the skin. RF facials only use the currents to provide results when galvanic need products to be penetrated to show temporary results. Galvanic facial currents only work on the surface of the skin having showing immediate results but short-term, lasting only a few days.

The RF Facial Procedure

1. Cleanse the skin to be treated with a wash suitable for the patient’s skin type, to remove make up and surface oils.
2. Apply cooling gel to the skin being treated to provide a barrier so the RF hand piece can glide on the skin and provide less discomfort.
3. Start RF treatment by gliding hand piece across the area being treated in an upward motion to give that firming and lifting effect.
4. Remove excess gel form the skin
5. Apply a soothing moisturizer meant for the patients skin type
6. Apply sunscreen

Can a RF Facial be combined with other anti-aging treatments?

RF facials can be combined with IPL (intense pulsed light) Laser treatments to diminish red and brown skin discolorations with few risks and minimal downtime.

Also, RF facials can be combined with vitamin C and other mineral injections for a more aggressive form of anti-aging and give a more plumped effect to the skin.

Radiofrequency (RF) energy treatment is a new and promising technology for non-surgical body contouring, fat and cellulite reduction.

With deep, controlled heating of the fatty layers under the skin, the effects of tissue tightening and increased blood circulation mean that fatty deposits are drained through the lymphatic system, reducing the appearance of cellulite. Based on current RF technologies, most people should see at least a mild improvement in their skin tone, with a temporary reduction in the appearance of cellulite and possible inch loss, with minimal risks and downtime.

A radio frequency emitter is pressed up against the skin. These radio waves get past the outer skin layers and deliver heat energy to the muscles and tissues beneath. The heat helps to contract these layers and build up collagen levels. The overall result tightens up the outer layers of skin and reduces wrinkling effects.

Radio frequency is the system to provide the treatment by generating the heat from inside the human body. Wrinkles and loose skin can take its toll on your looks. Even healthy and active people eventually show signs of aging on their faces. Since it’s the most important visual feature of your body the one that most people will recognize you by it’s important to keep your face fresh and youthful. More and more people have tried face lifts over the years to combat wrinkles and skin imperfections. Though often successful, traditional face lifts require minor surgery and prolonged recovery periods. There’s increasing demand for non-surgical techniques to refresh facial appearances. That’s where radio frequency face lifts come into play.

The radio frequency face lift was approved by the FDA as a non-surgical treatment for wrinkles and facial skin imperfections. It is a proven medical procedure that requires no scalpels or sutures. It’s also a popular choice for busy professionals who care about their looks. The treatment only takes about an hour, and full recovery is expected in a few days. The results take a bit of time to show fully though. Some results are visible immediately, while the full results take a few months to develop as the deep tissue layers heal.
Prices for radiofrequency depend on the area(s) treated and the device used.

RF MICRONEEDLING

RF Microneedling / Collagen Induction Therapy

Radio-frequency devices have been used for a variety of medical purposes, but the use of radiofrequency for skin tightening began in 2002 with the introduction of Thermage, a device which we had but stopped using several years ago. Since then there have been multiple devices introduced with similar technology. The problem with Thermage and most of these devices have been: The results have been unpredictable – most patients get no or minimal results, large numbers of treatments (6 plus) were frequently needed.Studies have shown that heating the dermis to 40-45 degrees Celsius stimulates the skin repair mechanism with the production of new collagen. Temperatures in the 60 – 65 degree range cause collagen contraction, producing more noticeable results. When the energy has to be delivered through the skin surface, it is difficult to achieve effective deep temperatures without injuring the skin.

Before and After (Microneedling Treatments)

Before and After (Microneedling Treatments)

With the micro RF needling machine, several different levels of the dermis can be PREDICTABLY treated. Different skin thicknesses can all be treated at appropriate levels, so the entire face can be treated. The energy travels only short distances between the needles, producing a true fractional with reduced discomfort.

Other devices cool the skin, attempting to protect it, while pushing energy into the deeper tissues. Because the skin of individuals varies, with differences in thickness, fat deposition, age and density of the collagen and skin hydration, the energy can be placed at variable or uncertain depths, resulting in variable effects and the risks of side effects from the energy being delivered too superficially (burns), or too deep producing fat necrosis. And if the desired temperatures are not reached, collagen growth will not be stimulated.

Unlike other devices which heat an entire area, Micro RF Needling uses fractional heating, leaving the surrounding tissues untreated, resulting in more rapid healing, less discomfort and significantly less risk. By protecting the skin with insulated needles, one can heat the deeper tissues to a higher temperature producing greater collagen formation and contraction. Also, the microneedling itself mechanically promotes new collagen formation.
